On 21 August 2023, we made the following observations in the Blüemlisalp/Blüemlisalp glacier, Fründehorn and Bütlassa area, among others:
Blüemlisalp glacier and Blüemlisalp massif. Photo taken on 21 August 2023.
Blüemlisalphorn and north face. Photo taken on 21 August 2023.

Part of the steeply sloping ice has recently broken off. Entrances to three caves (possibly subglacial meltwater channels) in the ice were revealed. From our location it was not possible to see how much meltwater flowed out of these caves.
Western tongue of the Blüemlisalp Glacier. Photo taken on 21 August 2023.
The western glacier tongue has also retreated again by a few metres. The tongue now ends everywhere several metres behind the prominent rock edge.
Impressive debris cone at the foot of the Blüemlisalp massif. Photo taken on 21 August 2023.
Glacier forefield of the Blüemlisalp glacier. Photo taken on 21 August 2023.
The moraines are probably the (final) moraines of 1870.
Summit flank Fründehorn. Photo taken on 21 August 2023.
The remains of the firn fields of the summit flank have almost completely melted away since 2022.

Fründe glacier and Fründejoch. Photo taken on 21 August 2023.
The route to Fründejoch looked friendlier on 21 August 2023 than a year earlier.
Bütlassa. Photo taken on 21 August 2023.
Glacier melt also continues on the NW face of the Bütlassa (formerly Bütlasse).
