Location 2 (Accidental rock with the inscription 2011) is located about 100m to the west of location 1 and was covered by the glacier until 2011.
In only 2 years the foothills of the glacier tongue have melted almost completely and in front of the glacier gate a rather large, shallow lake was formed. In the steep step towards Tiefenstock, the glacier lost contact with its tongue in the summer of 2017. On the photograph taken in July 2017, a group of prospective glaciologists can be seen on the right (-> comparison of sizes).
The photos from July 2017 and July 2018 show the difference between a winter with little snow (2016/17) and a winter with lots of snow (2017/18). In July 2018, the glacier ice is better protected by the snow than in July 2017 without snow cover.
Flora: In July 2017, we discovered a few glacier ranunculus glacialis (Lat.: Ranunculus glacialis) in the forefield of the glacier. Height: approx. 2500m.above sea level

It is interesting to see how a few rather large boulders have partially or completely sunk into the alluvial plain between 2015 and 2019. Note how far to the left the Tiefen glacier on the other side of the alluvial plain still reached in 2015.

28.09.2016: This panorama photo was taken with a different focal length than those of the following years. Probably because of this, the accuracy of fit is not very good.
This comparison provides an overview of the Tiefen glacier. In the last two years a frightening amount of ice has melted. That at all altitudes.
