Height: 2850 - 3990m
Location: Saas Balen, Saastal, Valais, Switzerland Show glacier on: Swiss map...
The Gruebu Glacier (Gruebugletscher) lies east of Saas Balen (Saas Valley, Valais, Switzerland) at the foot of the Fletschhorn (3985m). The valley in which the Grüebu Glacier is situated is quite lonely. In earlier years, the green glacier threatened the village of Saas Balen.

In the summer of 2016, the glacier lake was deepened for safety reasons. This caused the lake's mirror to sink 2-3 metres.

09.08.2020: To the left of the center of the photo, a rocky edge pulls up from the glacier to the right towards the dark summit (Inner Rothorn, 3454m). In this area, a considerable amount of rock has fallen onto the glacier in the period 2011 - 2020.
These repeat photos show the Grüebu glacier (Grüebugletscher) at a glance. The location at over 2800m a.s.l., the thick debris layer on the glacier tongue and the northwest orientation have saved this glacier from worse.
