Before/after comparison photo of Bächli glacier (Bernese Alps)

Height: 2400 - 3000m
Location: Guttannen, Haslital, Bernese Oberland, Switzerland Show glacier on: Swiss map...
The Bächli Glacier (Bächligletscher) is located in the Bächlital - a tributary valley of the Haslital - in the eastern Bernese Oberland (Switzerland). The Bächli Glacier lies at the foot of Gross Diamantstock (3160m), Bächlistock (3247m) and Brandlammhorn (3107m). The glacier tongue of the Bächli Glacier is less than an hour's walk from the Bächlital hut (2328m, Bächlitalhütte).

The cone of dead ice (bottom left in the picture from 2009) has largely melted down by 2017, despite the rather thick debris cover. The loss of the Bächli glacier in length and mass since 2009 is considerable.
The photo taken on July 13,2017 shows the early erosion of the glaciers in July 2017: on July 13, the snow line was already as stained and high as in September or October.

Location 5 is not far from location 1, but offers a slightly better view of the glacier tongue. It can be seen that in the last 2 years a lot of dead ice has melted below the glacier tongue and the glacier tongue itself has retreated further.
The visible part of the rock bar above the glacier tongue and the small plateau has also become wider in the past two years.
