Description:View of the tongue of Kanderfirn.
Two small proglacial lakes have formed in front of the melting glacier.
Since 2018 the discharge of meltwater has shifted:
In 2018 the water flowed off in direction 1 and further through a meltwater channel eaten into the glacier bed. Further ahead, the water plunged into the depths via a waterfall. In 2020 this waterfall no longer existed.
Since 2020 (possibly 2019) the meltwater flows off at 2. In 2018 this runoff was still covered by glacier ice. Accordingly the meltwater was prevented from flowing off in this direction.
The coloration of the water in the two small glacial lakes is different. The water of 3 contains less sediment than that of 4. This indicates a different origin of the water.
The rock band 5 is probably reti-dolomite. This band runs eastward to Wetterlückengletscher (new Wätterlickengletscher).
At 6 alpinists can be seen at the edge of the Kanderfirn. This is a comparison of sizes.
To the left of 1 is a large hump.
The numbers will be displayed in the panorama photo if you zoom in far enough.
