Front of Unteraar glacier (aerial view)
Photo time: 25.09.2018
Description:
The interactive panorama photo (aerial photograph) shows the end of the Unteraar glacier from a low altitude.
In summer 2018 a part of the glacier collapsed directly behind the ice wall. The ice has melted and a practically circular inner courtyard has formed. Diameter: approx. 50m.
The cylindrical panorama on the right shows the rest of the ice block, which lost contact with the glacier in 2017.
On the left, the dead ice at the foot of the northern flanks of Dessortstock and Vordre Zinggenstock still stretches far to the east. You can also see the area where most of the meltwater leaves the glacier.
